I had no previous experience with eating or cooking soul food and based upon the jacket I decided to give it a whirl. Every single recipe I have tried in this book is pleasantly healthy, easy to prepare and truly delicious. You don’t get better than that. I am a conscious eater and it is rare that I will prepare meals that are not super healthy. I did not have to weed any recipes or sections out so far. I have also been asked to share the recipes that were brought to girlfriend potlucks and more than one woman inquired about the book. Now that, says speaks volumes right there. This well designed and thought out book begins with a family history and ends with ‘Recipes for a Crowd”. I have not tried any of the drinks yet, in the section listed as Sips and Bites however I can tell by the ingredients I will not be disappointed and am looking forward to summer time gatherings and new drinks to share.
Some of my favorites so far are Broccoli with peanuts and raisins, Savory Avocado Salad, Sweet Potato Skewers, the Eggplant tower and every single soup. I have had the book just over a week. As you can guess, I highly recommend this book for ease of use, quality of writing, binding, and oh yes.. the food.
I was given this book by Bethany House for review and my opinions are my own.
