For a detailed book on everything you ever wanted to know (and more to my experience much of which I had absolutely no inkling) about Hard Cider, you don’t need to look any further, it’s here. I like my hard cider, even sort of successfully brewed it a few times, but my eyes are opened to the vastness of what is out there. You will find substantial information about the craft itself is followed by reviews of hard cider products... followed by recipes. Ah yes, recipes, my heart throbs and mouth salivates for more than a few of the contributions. Many taverns have contributed to this book as well, taking it up a notch or three. The Author has a pen for prose, an eye for illustrations and photography, and a whit that sets the stage for an enjoyable coffee table publication. This is a keeper, and though I have the Adobe version, I will be adding the paper version as soon as I can.
If you have ever wanted to create a Spa experience in your own home, this is the book for you. As an esthetician, if I was going to recommend an easy to read, well designed, clean book with gorgeous photographs that is choc full of easily creatable recipes and accessories… This is the one I would choose. It starts off with a great introduction of easy to find to ingredients and goes directly into the meat of the book… The recipes. It is not only recipes, however, there are fabulous DIY for complimentary items you would never think of such as making press on nail art, a shoe sachet, a shower pouf, shaving cream, an eye pillow and more. The chapters, Hands and Feet, Bath, Body, Face and Hair have just enough variety to keep everyone happy and feeling pampered. I highly recommend this book for everyone with skin, nails and hair.
This book is not a new concept, but one we should listen to. Tiny is referring to the waist size. An appropriate sized waist (aka tiny) is indeed a sign , most times, of good health and it is undoubtedly universally attractive. George brings us back to the standards from way back when that weight loss is simply eating well and counting calories eliminating sugar and most processed foods. There are lots of theories and diets out there and I think he is right in his thinking. This diet encourages eating clean which in turn supports the thyroid, and keeps the pancreas in check. The recipes are repetitive, but appropriate and certainly a person who needs to lose some weight around their middle can work with for a month or more. It’s worth the read and the follow.
I have in my collection a few salad books, and I’m thinking this is one of the best. I love the way fabulous cooks can create unique salads by paring unexpected ingredients to create memorable salads that encourage subtle moans of delight, or others that can subdue a dinner party with the first bite. This book goes the extra foot by suggesting how a salad be plated, or just how to prepare those special spices in a way that brings out their magnificence. The authors encourage you to step outside the salad box and add your favorite bits of delight to make your salads even more spectacular. I have tried several recipes in this book and will absolutely continue my journey with it. Love the grilled cheese croutons... and the Grilled Peach and Apricot Salad with Prosciutto and Kale. You will also find at least one new recipe for a dressing to live for. I did!
The author, F. Sehnaz Bac, is one talented woman with her stone painting illustrations. She goes into full detail on how to paint stones. Sound simple enough? Well it is. What kind of stones, how to prepare them for your paint, what designs to use, what kind of paint to use and how to preserve your beautiful masterpieces are all covered in this easy to follow book. She offers many designs for ideas with basic instructions. If you are looking for full instructions on how to make each design, you will be disappointed. If you are looking for creative guidance and quite a few pretty darn good examples, then you will be delighted. The patterns are Zen like requiring perhaps a bit of concentration certainly resulting in stress reduction. You can be as simple or as detailed as you want in your work and she shows both ways. It’s an inexpensive and fulfilling hobby, this book is a good place to start.
Wow! If you feel you are broken, have unresolved issues and regrets, you are absolutely in good company and certainly not alone. However, what is in the past is in the past and today is the day you accept yourself for the wonderful person you are and move forward with grace and love for the rest of your life. Sound impossible? Second chance living, knowing who you are and what you are going to do about it is a good portion of what this book is about. I am amazed at how logical and real this book is. Quietly loose the façade and learn to know, accept and LOVE yourself. There isn’t a person I know that cannot benefit in a big way from this tremendously valuable book.
I received this book from Waterbrook and the opinion is my own.
Do you have clothes hanging in your closet and shoes on the floor, still sporting tags and sitting for seasons? Do you open your closet full of clothes so packed and you can’t find a thing to wear or find yourself sporting the same 5 pieces, while the rest of the items you absolutely had to have, never fit right, were never the right fit or now are a bit snug remain banished? Guilty!!
Anushka Rees really hit the nail on the head with most of us, and has successfully put into writing a guide book to detox your closet, end the clutter in the closet and help you discover what works for you... no matter what the fashion industry is flaunting. She teaches you how to buy what suits you, so you always have something to wear that is flattering, comfortable and very ‘you’. . The book begins with setting lifestyle goals, defining what your clothes say about you and aids you in discovering your own personal style. She helps you put it all together with a comprehensive list of questions for self-discovery to help you find what really is you. She directs you on where to find inspiration and what really resonates with you: What colors work, learning ‘outfit formulas’, how to keep your closet current and so much more. If this was a class, I would definitely take it.
I cannot, in this review, come close to all the book encompasses. It is a comprehensive guide to the truly Curated Closet and there are few in this world who cannot use what the author has to share. It has helped me to become more aware and study who I am and what works for me. I also have a long way to go as it is not an overnight process. I have less items and every one of them works just fine. I discovered my style, I know where to shop and I know what to wear that makes me feel great.
I received this book to review and the opinion is mine and honest.
Yes, you read right this truly is a comic book and yes, it does contain recipes. Good, authentic, easy to understand recipes. There is a nice variety of dishes to choose from including, some near and dear to me: Kimchi and pickles. The Korean’s have it down with fermented vegetables supporting digestion and this book gives you a nice, easy to prepare selection. Being unfamiliar with cooking Korean, I was pleasantly surprised that the food was so delicious. This book covers vegetable side dishes, meat and poultry, seafood, soups and stews (my favorite), porridges, how to make fresh noodles and rice cakes, snacks, cocktails and oh yes, street food. It shows you how to marinade and grill, how to make seaweed salad... yum, and so much more I was not expecting. I highly recommend this book for not only it’s unique approach to cooking Korean, but the delicious and nutritious I might add, treasures it holds inside.
I received this book from 10 speed press and it in no way altered my opinion.
I am finding this book to be a valuable resource for my kitchen. Being a huge soup lover, I
I thought this was about soup. Nope! It goes way beyond that. The author begins with an introduction of course to broth and stock making, shares the difference between the two and goes into great detail on just how to make many versions of one of the most nutritious foods you can eat. Most people are familiar with broths being meat and poultry based, however, there are green broths, sea vegetable broths, kitchen scrap broths and fish broths.
The recipes go beyond a delicious chicken soup, an amazing new England clam chowder, and a couple others I have not been disappointed with to the best mashed potatoes, miso glazed bok choy, sauces, and the beautiful springtime risotto with asparagus, green garlic and chive blossoms.
Every recipe has a mouthwatering picture accompanying it, and I love the fact that the ingredients are readily available. I give this book a two thumbs up and heartily recommend you add it to your pantry for both your palate and your health.
I received this book from 10 speed press and the opinion is my own.
This delightful cookbook is about real food. Whether you are preparing a simple weekday dinner or a feast with family or friends, this cookbook has something delicious, healthy, and pretty easy.
Gruyere and thyme biscuits, spicy marinated watermelon, corn salad with red onion and basil, crispy Brussels sprouts, roast chicken are a few of the recipes I have enjoyed from this book.
The authors begin with some kitchen basics and handy helping tips such as spacing you vegetables out on the baking sheet so they will become crispy and brown rather than steamed from over crowding. Yes, I am guilty of that and yes it does make a difference to 'give them space”. Simple and effective.
Another portion of the book is about flavoring. There is a nice variety of rubs, marinades, dressings and sauces. Follow that with some pretty impressive condiment recipes that are simple, yet add some pizzazz to your plate. I was not disappointed with any recipe I have tried. The directions are clear, the pictures are mouthwatering and the variety is appropriate.
This is yet another coffee table book that is a pleasure to read never mind use in the kitchen.
I received this book from Clarkson Potter and the opinions are my own.
